The Buffalo Bills (9-3) and the New York Jets (7-5) may have the most important game of the day. At the moment, the Bills are first in the division and first in the AFC, while Jets are third in the division, seventh in the division.
New York is currently a game ahead of the New England Patriots who have swept the Jets this season. Now New York will need to do the sweeping, in a rematch with major playoff ramifications.
In this rematch, it will be WR Stefon Diggs vs CB Sauce Gardner part two. Something Allen will need to contend with as he works his way back into the conversation.
The first time, it went the Jets way. The catalyst of the latest Buffalo slide.
In their first matchup against the Jets, Gardner only allowed three catches for 29 yards in coverage. Often in one-on-one matchups with the Bills WR1. Something MVP hopeful Josh Allen can't afford to have happen again.
Following his bad second half against the Green Bay Packers, a game the Bills won, the Jets ran all over the Bills. Literally. Racking up 174 yards on the ground, and giving Allen not only his worst game of the season, but the game that would eventually take him out of the lead for league MVP.
205 passing yards on 52.9% completion, for two interceptions. As well as 86 rushing yards and two touchdowns. All for a 46.8 passer rating. By far his worst statistical game of the season.
Since then, Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes became the betting favorite to win the award. Including Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa and Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts in the discussion.
The reason for a good game and a win not only keeps Allen in the race for MVP, but also at the number one seed. In the last decade, the quarterback of either the NFC or AFC number one seed has won MVP more than any other situation.
Now that the Buffalo Bills have a chance for revenge, which would also move the Jets out of the playoff race for at least a week, it could help Allen reclaim his chance for the top honor.
