Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert doesn’t always get the love that he truly deserves. While appreciated by Eagles fans, one of the NFL’s top tight ends can get lost in the shuffle in this big play offense.
Former Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant (2006-2013) and safety Quintin Mikell (2003-2010) highlighted what separates Goedert from other tight ends in football on Inside the Birds.
“There’s going to be games where A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith have tough matchups. I don’t think there’s going to be too many [times] that Dallas Goedert is going to have a tough matchup. There’s not many safeties that can cover a guy that big and fast. There’s not many linebackers that can cover a guy that big and that fast.”
Goedert’s athleticism is rare for his position. Mikell likens it to one of the best tight ends in NFL history in the Chiefs’ Travis Kelce.
“First of all, they line him up everywhere,” said Mikell.” He can block, he can catch screens and run, he can run after the catch, he can go down the field. He’s a lot like Kelce in a lot of ways in terms of his ability to run routes and get out in the open field.”
Goedert gives the Eagles a true three-headed monster for quarterback Jalen Hurts in the passing game. Goedert isn’t just a redzone threat. His run after the catch ability opens up the middle of the field for the Eagles’ offense.
While he continues to make highlight reel plays each Sunday, the rest of the football world is catching on to what Eagles fans have known for quite some time; Dallas Goedert is one of the best weapons in the NFL.
