A source tells Jeff McClain that Hurts has been “better at communication and being around the team this offseason.” And honestly, this is exactly what Eagles fans needed to hear.

More than just football for the now veteran QB

According to the report, it may be as simple as saying hello in the hallway, hanging out in the locker room, and talking about himself more openly. We saw some of that vulnerability in his recent GQ interview, and it seems like that openness is carrying over into the building. Hurts has organized summer workouts with skill position players before, but this year he had almost full attendance at the session he ran in Orlando in July. Guys want to be around him and are buying in.

Obviously there’s been a big spotlight this offseason on the relationship between Hurts and some of his teammates, and we all know the A.J. Brown situation has dominated headlines. But I like the fact that Jalen is taking this upon himself. He’s recognizing that maybe he needs to grow in certain areas, and he’s actually doing something about it. That’s maturity and accountability.

The bigger picture for Philly

We put these guys under such an enormous microscope because the NFL is mainstream entertainment at this point. Every interaction, every perceived slight, every workout attendance list gets dissected. But if you take a step back, this is really just a person trying to get better at his job. The fact that Hurts is already implementing these changes tells me he’s willing to take the steps and do what it takes to be a real leader for this Eagles team.

I think people forget sometimes that leadership isn’t just about throwing touchdowns and making plays on the field. It’s about the little things. It’s about being present, making your teammates feel like you’re invested in them as people. And from everything we’re hearing, Hurts is doing exactly that.

This is going to be critical for Philadelphia this season. With a new offensive coordinator in Sean Mannion, with all the roster turnover at wide receiver, and with the pressure of trying to get back to the Super Bowl, the Eagles need Hurts to be that guy in the locker room. Not just the franchise quarterback, but the emotional anchor of this team. And so far, all signs point in the right direction.

When Jalen Hurts is locked in and focused, this team is dangerous. If this new version of Hurts carries into September and beyond, the rest of the NFC East better be paying attention.
