The Buffalo Bills (5-1) are on Cloud 9 though the first seven weeks. They bolster the NFL's top offense and top defense, leading MVP candidate in QB Josh Allen and are on a direct path that looks almost destined for a February trip to the desert.
Only thing that's really missing a ground game. While it's nice that Allen and RB Devin Singletary combine for 511 of the team's rushing yards, it isn't proving to be enough.
The lack of depth behind Singletary, and reliance on Allen can only go so far. The Bills rank 22nd in the league in rushing yards and 11th in yards per attempt (4.8). With the majority of those coming from Josh Allen, who's averaging 5.5 yards per attempt.
It's no wonder that after the Christian McCaffery trade news broke, the Buffalo Bills continue to be attached to every running back that's potentially on the trade block, including Browns RB Kareem Hunt.
While a running back might not be the end-all be-all key piece to getting the Bills to the Super Bowl, it shows how dedicated they are to this season. Understanding that having a franchise quarterback of Allen's stature means they will be contenders for years to come.
However, the manner of which the Bills are playing in an overloaded AFC, and an underwhelming NFC means 2022-23 could be the best shot Buffalo has at hoisting the Lombardi.
Should the Buffalo Bills acquire extra fire power for the depth in the backfield, the league's top offense should be described in one word: Overkill.
Can anyone stop the NFL's best offense once it gets better? Or are Bills players getting their ring sizes measured?
