The offense has been doing its thing, but we knew that would come. When you have the best receiver in the game, the highest-paid tight end in the game, and a top-five running back at this moment, the offense will always be there.
The defense is what is starting to hit its stride. A big reason why is because of the glue guys, or the guys that are very important, but you won't hear a whole lot about them. Guys like safety Duron Harmon.
He got his praise from head coach Josh McDaniels on Monday.
"This is a guy that has been around so many different types of players, teams… He has learned a lot, you know," McDaniels said about Harmon. "The greatest thing about Duron [Harmon] is he is so willing to share his experiences with everyone else, good or bad. When he makes a mistake, he wants the other guys not to make the same one. When he sees something he can help them with, he does.
"He is extremely coachable, on our end as coaches, he is a great player to coach because he listens very well. He can make adjustments quickly, and then he is a great communicator. It gives you a lot of comfort back there when you have someone echoing the calls, and really making sure we are all on the same page. Clearly, our guys feel very strongly about him, they voted him as a captain, and deservedly so."
The Raiders defense is finally starting to come together. Maxx Crosby has been doing his thing all year, but now we are seeing the other guys starting to make big plays, like Harmon, who had a pick six on Sunday.
Harmn was with McDaniels in New England prior to this year, so we knew he would have that chemistry with the new head coach. We also knew he would be a guy that would work hard and be a good leader, and that is exactly what we have seen thus far.
