The Philadelphia Eagles received some bad news this week after their 40-33 win against the Green Bay Packers.

According to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Eagles safety CJ Gardner-Johnson will be out indefinitely after suffering a lacerated kidney in the win against the Packers.

Garnder-Johnson currently leads in the NFL in interceptions with six.

According to NFL.com, Gardner-Johnson is not expected to miss the rest of the season due to the injury.

The former Florida standout joined the Eagles just before the start of the season after being traded away from the New Orleans Saints.

Gardner-Johnson was looking for an extension with the Saints this past summer. That extension, however, never materialized. Once those talks broke down, New Orleans sent Gardner-Johnson to Philly for a couple of late-round draft picks.

That move now looks like a major steal for Philadelphia.

In New Orleans, Garnder-Johnson was mostly used as a nickel cornerback. With the Eagles, Garnder-Johnson is thriving in his full-time role as a safety (while also providing versatility).

Losing Gardner-Johnson is certainly a major blow to Philadelphia's defense, but the good news for the Eagles is that he should be back in time for the playoffs.
