The Philadelphia Eagles’ (10-1) offense delivered in the team’s thrilling 40-33 win over the Green Bay Packers (4-8) on Sunday Night Football. However, head coach Nick Sirianni believes the unit still has plenty to clean up.
A combination of mishaps led to the Packers’ offense dropping 30 points on Philadelphia. Following the win, Sirianni chastised his offense, along with his special teams unit, for putting the defense in a poor position early on.
“What I was disappointed in in the first half is that the offense and special teams put the defense in some short situations. One was my fault; we didn’t get it on fourth down and I went for it,” Sirianni told reporters.
“The other one, we had a fumble. Then the special teams one. So, all their possessions in the first have, they didn’t have to go the long way. With Aaron Rodgers, you don’t want to give him any short fields, and we gave him three. They made us pay for it.”
The Eagles managed to head into the locker room at halftime holding onto a 27-20 lead, but the team most certainly played with fire.
Packers backup quarterback Jordan Love took over for Rodgers after the league’s back-to-back MVP left the game with an oblique injury at the end of the third quarter. Had Rodgers been able to finish the contest, the result might not have been a favorable one for the Birds.
That being said, mistakes are much easier to correct following a win compared to a loss. Sirianni and this offense will learn from this experience, and hopefully become better for it.
