Detroit Lions running back Jamaal Williams (30) runs against Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller (40) during the first half at Ford Field in Detroit on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022.

The Buffalo Bills revealed that Von Miller's knee injury was worse than originally thought.

On Thanksgiving, against the Lions, Miller was carted off the field with an apparent knee injury.

Over the next coming days, there were rumors circulating around the severity of the injury.

Timeline of injury

Initially, it was believed that Miller had a slight meniscus injury that would sideline him for a few weeks. Now, it's been announced that the injury is far worse than originally feared.

Miller, just a few days ago, announced on his podcast that he was hoping to be back in action this week.

Fast forward a few days after the Bills officially put him on IR, and Miller's season is finished with an ACL tear.

Ian Rapoport was one of the first to detail the timeline of events that led to the team, and Miller, learning about the nature of his injury.

What went wrong

The star pass rusher was waiting 10-14 days for the swelling to go down before getting his knee further evaluated. Initially, Miller and the entire Bills front office were reporting that it was not an ACL tear. In fact, Miller even made the direct comment that he did not, in fact, tear his ACL.

During surgery to reposition the lateral meniscus was when doctors discovered the ACL tear. A crushing blow to the fans of the Buffalo Bills. The injury was just that much more devastating after Miller had announced it wasn't an ACL tear.

The Buffalo Bills have Super Bowl aspirations and the loss of Von Miller will undoubtedly hurt that. Miller, during the Bills' recent slump, reinforced to the media of his sentiment toward the team during this time. "Don't blink."

What's next?

McDermott and Beane will continue to deploy their next-man-up mentality in Miller's absence. The young core of Greggory Rousseau, Boogie Basham, Ed Oliver and Shaq Lawson will look to try and replicate some of the success Miller had on the field.

Miller's injury on Thanksgiving was eerily similar to what the Bills endured just one year ago. Last Thanksgiving, Tre White got hurt with an ACL tear that knocked him out of the season, too.

While Bills Mafia is grieving the loss of Miller on the football field, there is still work to be done.

Josh Allen and company will look to continue their impressive season Sunday against the Jets.

Remember Bills Mafia, don't blink.
