It's no secret that the Denver Broncos' offense has sputtered this season.
In turn, they need other parts of the team to step up. The defense has done exactly that all season long. That hasn't turned into many wins, but their performances have been impressive.
On special teams, the Broncos have been quite inconsistent. In some games, the return game is explosive. In others, turnovers and penalties have peppered the unit.
That's been frustrating for Denver, but their staff still believes in their players. According, a rival coach has picked up on the talent in the special teams room for the Broncos.
Ahead of their matchup this week, Kansas City Chiefs' ST coach Dave Toub showed some respect for returner Montrell Washington for the Broncos.
Q: What do you expect from the Broncos special teams unit? Are they a solid unit? TOUB: “Yeah, they’re a solid unit. They’ve got a really good punt returner. I mean I’m really, really very impressed with him. He’s (Broncos WR Montrell Washington) a rookie and he’s hard to tackle (laughs). He’s got a lot of courage, he catches the ball in a crowd, he’s a spinner and he’s just really good after the catch. He does kickoff return, too, so he’s a guy we have to deal with.”
The rookie clearly caught Toub's eye. Not to mention, he is one of the most well-respected special teams coached in the NFL.
Look for the Chiefs to be extremely careful in kicking the ball to Washington.
