Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy's contract is set to expire at the end of the 2021 league year, which makes his future with the franchise uncertain.

Bieniemy was once again passed over during the latest coaching cycle, despite helping lead one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Sunday morning that Bieniemy is expected to meet with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid "soon" to determine if his future is in Kansas City.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bieniemy move on from the Chiefs. I think Reid would love to have him back in 2022, but I think Bieniemy might want to run an offense for another franchise.

At this point, it feels like getting away from Reid and running an offense for a defensive-minded head coach is the only way that Bieniemy is going to prove himself as a head coach option to NFL owners/general managers. That shouldn't be necessary — Bieniemy has done more than enough to prove he's worthy of being a head coach. But it might be the only option he has after being passed up multiple times.

Chiefs quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka left recently to become the New York Giants offensive coordinator. So if Bieniemy leaves, it will leave a big hole on the Chiefs' coaching staff that Reid will have to fill — likely from outside the organization.
