The No. 6 Tennessee Vols are set for a massive showdown in Knoxville on Saturday against No. 3 Alabama.
Earlier this week, Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban sat down with ESPN's Marty Smith to discuss the matchup with the Vols.
Saban referred to Tennessee as one of the best teams in the nation during his conversation with Smith.
"It's hard to win on the road," said Saban. "And it's a real challenge and opportunity for our players to go up against maybe one of the best teams in the country I think. And, you know, see how we do."
Who would've thought a couple of years ago when the Vols were wandering in the wilderness that Saban would be referring to Tennessee as one of the best teams in the nation?
I certainly didn't expect that to be the case.
But here we are and Saban is taking Tennessee as seriously as any opponent that Alabama will face this season.
Saban knows this is a game Bama could lose. And as a result, he's doing everything he can to keep his players locked in — including making it seem like Alabama is the underdog in this matchup.
Saturday is Tennessee's chance to prove Saban right. If they beat Alabama, there's no doubt that the Vols will be a top 3 team entering their matchup against UT Martin on October 22.
