The Tennessee Titans and the NFL world begin free agency Monday at noon ET. Veteran center Ben Jones is set to hit the open market for the first time since 2016.
However, the Titans are interested in bringing back Jones a source tells A to Z Sports Nashville.
The 10-year veteran signed a two year, $13.5 million deal following the Titans' AFC Championship run in 2019. In 2016, Jones signed a four year deal worth $17.5 million after playing his first four seasons with the Houston Texans.
Jones has started in 96 out of a possible 97 games in his six seasons with the Titans. He is set to turn 33-years-old this summer and has been known for his gritty and cerebral play at the center position.
The Titans showing interest doesn't mean a deal will happen. Jones made a base salary of $6.25 million in 2021, which could be too steep for the Titans moving forward.
The Titans are in the midst of reshuffling the offensive line after the team announced the release of LG Rodger Saffold and backup OT Kendall Lamm last week. By doing so, the Titans saved $10.5 million from Saffold's contract and $3.3 million from Lamm on the salary cap.
Taylor Lewan's future with the team remains unclear at the moment as his release would save the Titans $12.9 on the cap. RT David Quessenberry who started all 17 games at right tackle in 2021 is also a pending free agent.
