The Cincinnati Bengals received some unfortunate news on Friday ahead of their matchup with the New England Patriots on Christmas Eve.
Cincinnati officially ruled out tight end Hayden Hurst for the game against the Patriots.
Hurst, who was hoping to return this week, is dealing with a calf injury that's kept him off the field for the last two games.
Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins get all of the attention on the offensive side of the ball for Cincy, but Hurst is an important player, too.
The former South Carolina standout has 48 receptions for 400 yards and two touchdowns so far this season. If he had played all season, he likely would've set career highs for receiving yards and receptions.
With Hurst out, Mitchell Wilcox will once again see an expanded role in Cincinnati's offense. Wilcox caught three passes for 34 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals' win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week.
