As Titans fans know, Cornerback play was not one of the team's strengths in 2020. That will have to change for the defense to improve enough for the team to go where they want to in 2021. Three key players are veteran CB Janoris Jenkins and rookie CBs Caleb Farley and Elijah Molden. We are getting some updates on them so far through minicamp.
It sounds like Jenkins is playing as active and aggressive as ever. Even at age 32, he is making plays and is ready to make a big impact. His veteran presence would be huge for the Titans this season. If he can be an upgrade over Malcolm Butler, that would make a big difference for Tennessee.
After practice on Tuesday, Titans Head Coach Mike Vrabel said in regards to Jenkins, "I love his energy. He's fun to coach. Always got a smile on his face and loves football." He is excited about what he could bring to the defense, it seems.
Farley and Molden will both only be rookies. There always seems to be a harsh learning curve with rookie Cornerbacks, and Jenkins could play a role in helping with that.
As for Farley, he was not on the practice field on Tuesday. Vrabel is content with his progress so far but did not provide any other updates on his status. He mentioned that "everything's been positive in the role we've asked him to perform." That is a good sign, even if that is one of Vrabel's patented vague answers.
Fellow rookie Elijah Molden has been running through some of the practice drills so far. He missed some of the earlier action in OTAs, so that is a good sign for Tennessee. He's been competing, and he's ready to learn and grow.
You can certainly tell he is a competitor. Expect him to have an impact early and often for the Titans in 2021. Many think he was one of the biggest steals of this year's draft.
It is still early in Titans minicamp, but the secondary seems to be stepping up so far. That would be a sight for sore eyes for Titans fans and coaches this season.
