The Tennessee Titans released long-time punter Brett Kern on Monday in favor of Ryan Stonehouse, a rookie out of Colorado State.

Kern had been with the Titans since 2009 when the team claimed him off waivers from the Denver Broncos.

The New York native holds multiple Titans franchise records (per Broadway Sports).

Former Titans linebacker Wesley Woodyard Jr, who was Kern's teammate in Nashville from 2014 to 2019 (they were also teammates in Denver in 2008 and early 2009), made it clear on Monday that he wasn't a fan of the Titans' decision to release the veteran punter.

Woodyard commented on an AtoZ Sports Instagram post with a couple of emojis that described his feelings about Kern's release.

I'd say a thumbs down emoji and a clown emoji leaves no doubt about Woodyard's feelings on the roster move.

Though to be fair to the Titans, Kern is 36 and likely nearing the end of his career. While I'm sure it was a difficult decision to move on from him, it's an understandable move that was bound to happen sooner rather than later.
