Former Tennessee Vols QB Joe Milton III received some good news on Sunday evening, when the Dallas Cowboys and the rest of the NFL cut their rosters down to the 53-player limit.

However, that good news lasted just a day, as Dallas waived Milton to accommodate for claiming former Kansas City RB Emeri Demercado off of waivers.

Milton will now pass through waivers himself. Will someone claim him, or will he get signed after passing through unclaimed? Here are some logical candidates to consider him.

1) Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins’ quarterback options going into cutdown Sunday were…..suspect. They thought so much of 2025 7th round pick Quinn Ewers that they up and traded him to Jacksonville. They also traded for Kyle McCord, who immediately becomes their QB2 behind Malik Willis.

Milton gives them someone with experience and more of a physical upside. And on a team badly lacking weapons outside of RB De’Von Achane, having someone with elite athleticism at the QB position can’t hurt.

2) Atlanta Falcons

Goodness, is Atlanta’s QB situation a super hot mess. Michael Penix, Jr. is still working his way back from a knee injury, and Tua Tagovailoa’s preseason has been a flat-out train wreck.

Milton would immediately slot in as QB2, if not higher.

3) New York Jets

New York’s backup QB options are former Clemson Tigers rookie Cade Klubnik. End list. To be mildly fair, what I saw from Klubnik against Tampa Bay to start the preseason wasn’t all that bad, but again, going with Klubnik, who was not good last year for the Tigers, as your only backup doesn’t breed much confidence.

4) Cleveland Browns

The Browns kept four QBs following cut downs, so hey, why not bring in a fifth? Dillon Gabriel is starting the season on IR, and DeShaun Watson will start, but looks like a shell of his former self. Shedeur Sanders is very much iffy as a starting option despite many clamoring he deserved the nod over Watson to start the season, so that speaks to the talent in the room by itself.

Milton’s strong arm would be an interesting fit in an offense that looks better at the wide receiver position with rookies KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston in the mix.
