The Cincinnati Bengals had an incredibly successful season in 2021.

But based off NFL standards, another successful season -or in their case, a more successful season- is far from guaranteed.

That doesn't phase Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon, however. According to Mixon there's only one direction for the Bengals to go in 2022.

"To be honest, I feel like we might be the hottest thing smokin' in the NFL on Sundays," Mixon recently told CBS News' KPIX San Francisco. "With the talent we got and who we added onto this year, I feel like we're bound to have a hell of a season. The best thing about it is we've been there before and we know how to get there. We've just gotta stick to the basics, one week at a time, and that's what's gonna happen."

The Bengals are certainly in line for a "hell of a season" in 2022

Mixon's assessment is absolutely correct. The Bengals should have a hell of a season.

The Bengals drastically improved their offensive line, which was the obvious weak point of the team. They addressed secondary depth with the drafting of Dax Hill and Cam Taylor-Britt. The defensive line has adequate replacements for Larry Ogunjobi in B.J. Hill and Zach Carter. And, Hayden Hurst was once a second-round pick and people can argue he's been misused over the course of his career.

If the Bengals can find a way to get Jessie Bates III back into the mix then this team is easily a top-3 team in the AFC.

Even with all of the hype currently surrounding the AFC West.

And then there's the current state of the AFC North. The Ravens, Browns (especially), and Steelers all have a lot of questions to answer. It's hard to feel really confident about any of their 2022 prospects.

Regardless, it's easy to see why Mixon feels the way he does. He -and the rest of his teammates- just have to make sure they aren't complacent come kickoff on Sundays.
