Bryan Harsin allegedly made fun of another SEC program before getting fired at Auburn

Auburn fired head coach Bryan Harsin on Monday and I don't think anyone who follows college football was surprised.

Not long after Harsin was hired, it became a matter of "when" he would be fired, not "if".

Harsin was never a good fit at Auburn. He's a good coach, but he's not SEC material.

In fact, Harsin is way too insecure to have success in a conference as tough as the SEC.

And we received a great example this week of how thin-skinned he could be when a story surfaced of a reported run-in with former Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason

Mason, at the time, was serving as Harsin's defensive coordinator at Auburn.

The Tigers needed a defensive line coach and Mason wanted to oversee the hire. Harsin preferred to make the hire himself, which led to a wild exchange between Mason and Harsin.

From AL.com:

Rumors swirled around Mason’s departure while several Auburn players opted for the transfer portal. One incident came about during Auburn’s search for a defensive line coach that resulted in hiring former Tiger defensive lineman Jimmy Brumbaugh. According to sources, Mason and Harsin disagreed about the process of selecting the defensive line coach. Mason wanted more control of the situation since the D-line coach would be his direct report. Harsin as the head coach felt he should make the call with input from Mason.

Harsin and Mason had an interaction where Mason said “I’ve been a head coach in this league longer than you have.” Harsin replied, “Oh, you mean at Vanderbilt?” according to people familiar with the situation.

Harsin gets fired and Vanderbilt catches a stray. I'm not sure there's a more SEC story going on this week than this one.

There's never a shortage of wild storylines in the SEC. And the fact that Harsin made fun of Mason for being the head coach at Vanderbilt before he ended up getting fired after just 21 games as a head coach is honestly hilarious.

I'm sure Mason, who is currently the defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State, is having quite a laugh this week.
