Former Tennessee Vols linebacker/assistant coach/interim head coach Kevin Steele is back in college football after having an extremely strange off-season in 2020-21.
ESPN's Chris Low reported on Friday that Steele will become the new defensive coordinator at Maryland.

Steele, who was Auburn's defensive coordinator from 2016-2020, served as Auburn's interim head coach after Guz Malzahn was fired last offseason.
After Bryan Harsin was hired to replace Malzahn, Steele became a defensive assistant under Jeremy Pruitt at Tennessee.
A few days later, Pruitt was fired by the Vols. And Steele was named UT's interim head coach.
New Vols head coach Josh Heupel didn't retain Steele, which meant Tennessee was on the hook for an $860k buyout. Steele was officially employed by UT for 51 days.
Steele's buyout is mitigated, so his new job with Maryland will offset some of what the Volunteers owe him.
