Tennessee Vols right-handed pitcher Ben Joyce has taken the college baseball world by storm this season.

Joyce, a Knoxville native who transferred to Tennessee from Walter State CC in 2020, has been lighting up the radar gun in relief appearances.

The 6-foot-5 pitcher has touched 103 MPH and regularly hits 99-102 MPH.

As a result, some folks outside of Tennessee have started taking notice of Joyce.

That includes the "Pitching Ninja", AKA Rob Friedman, who regularly posts clips of insane pitches on his extremely popular Twitter account.

Friedman highlighted Joyce on Wednesday and even gave him a new nickname — "The Volunteer fireman".

I love it. Joyce is a flamethrower and he's a Volunteer. It's perfect.

Tennessee baseball is off to an incredible start this season (12-1 through the first 13 games of the season). It's great to see the program get some national attention.

Joyce, by the way, is likely catching the eye of MLB scouts. He's locating his fastball well. And he's already had Tommy John surgery (he missed all of 2020 while recovering from the surgery), which will make him an even more attractive option to MLB teams (nearly every pitcher who throws that hard will have Tommy John surgery at some point, so it's almost best to just get it out of the way early).
