Without quarterback Russell Wilson, the offense for the Denver Broncos remained in quicksand against the New York Jets.
Backup QB Brett Rypien struggled. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett did not make any waves with his offensive play calling.
Overall, it was more of the same.
In particular, the offense was basically invisible in the second half. The third quarter, in particular, has been ugly all season for the Broncos this season.
For whatever reason, their performance coming out of the locker room at halftime is subpar. That is putting it lightly.
The Broncos have scored just five points in the third quarter all season long.
Denver has played seven games. That statistic is inexcusable for a team with the talent that the Broncos have. Honestly, it is ridiculous for any offense to struggle that badly in one quarter.
With or without Russell Wilson, the Broncos have to find some sort of offensive flow. Continuously running the same plays with the expectation that things will change is just not realistic.
Nathaniel Hackett and the offensive coaching staff deserves much of the blame for these struggles because a change at QB did nothing.
If nothing improves in the next couple of weeks, a coaching change for the Broncos is certainly on the table. Fans and media alike have begun to clamor for it over the past couple of weeks.
The Broncos have too talented of an offense and an elite defense to continue trends like this one.
Simply put, multiple people must step up if the Broncos want to get back into playoff contention.
