To be a great quarterback in the NFL, you have to be able to read and react.

Or, as Nick Sirianni put it, "build a memory bank" so that you know what the defensive is giving you prior to the play. And on Thursday, after practice, Sirianni said that is exactly what Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has improved on.

"[He's worked on] A lot of different things," Sirianni said. "I think he’s seeing the field really well. I think he’s building that memory bank of plays versus different coverages, and knowing where to go with the football from there.

"So, I just think his decision-making process is just continuing to get better — which is common among quarterbacks that are on it, and that are getting better. So, I just think his decision-making is happening fast, it’s happening quickly, and he just keeps getting better at that.”

Hurts has had a quality training camp and preseason. Ahead of the most important season of his career, he appears confident in his ability as a thrower and a runner of the football.

Sirianni on A.J. Brown

It also helps that the Eagles went out and trade for A.J. Brown, one of the elite wide receivers in the league. He is also a player who is trending in the right direction, despite Brown having to learn an entirely new offense this offseason, Sirianni said.

"He’s awesome," Sirianni said. "You know, he fits in great. Obviously, a guy comes in and the amount of plays he’s made in this league, has the automatic respect of everybody, but the way he interacts with his teammates, the way he works on the practice field, he fits great into our culture.

"I mean, we want to get better every day at practice, we want to compete, we want to connect with our guys, and he speaks to all those things. So, I love having him on the team for his playmaking ability and I love having him on the team for the person and the teammate that he is.”

Ahead of Saturday's matchup with the Miami Dolphins, Sirianni is saying the right things about his stars. He has to. The season banks on both of their performances.
