The Las Vegas Raiders haven't shown much of anything over this season, whether it be offense or defense. they have been pretty bad on both ends, to say the least.
Well, okay, the offense has shown flashes, but because they can't close games out, it has looked bad. The pass rush on defense has really been the only bright spot on that side of the ball, and even then, it has only really been Maxx Crosby.
The offense has shown flashes of what it can look like, and how dominant it could be, but then, they go and make a mistake.
Against the Seattle Seahawks, they started by not looking great, but it's about how they bounced back.
“I think it speaks to the entire team's mentality, offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi said.
Not many teams are able to do that either. If you can have short-term memory loss after having a bad play, then most of the time, it doesn't affect your play.
After the second one, that's when it kicked in.
"I mean, you throw an interception on the first play of the game, it's going to challenge your mental toughness. And then you go out there and we got the ball and scored on the next series a touchdown. But then we turned it over on the following series.
"How we handle that, not only as an offense, but as a defense and a kicking unit, is big and it speaks to a lot of the guys in terms of next-play mentality moving forward. Especially Derek, the skill guys on offense, the offensive line; but it's a really team thing."
The Raiders have shown that twice now, last week and this week against Seattle. They are starting to have the mental side of things down, and it is easily working in their favor.
Most teams in the NFL, the bad ones especially, don't have that short memory, where they can make a bad play and move right on to the next.
Bad teams in the NFL usually continue to make bad plays after one, and it tears them don throughout the game. The Raiders didn't let that happen.
