Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes made a statement on Thursday that should concern the rest of the AFC West.

The narrative throughout the offseason has been that Kansas City's offense is going to struggle in 2022 due to the loss of wide receiver Tyreek Hill (traded to the Miami Dolphins earlier this offseason).

A comment from Mahomes on Thursday, however, suggests that the Chiefs' offense is going to be hitting on all cylinders in 2022.

Mahomes told reporters that the offense took a "giant step" during training camp.

He also pointed out that he's seen a "ton of growth" from Kansas City's wide receivers this summer.

"I’ve seen a ton of growth…It was good for them to see how we do things, and as we get closer to the season, we’ll refine that," said Mahomes

There's no doubt that losing Hill will rob the Chiefs of one of the more dynamic aspects of their offense. Replacing Hill is nearly impossible.

But we've seen Andy Reid adapt his offense plenty over the years — dating back to his time as the Philadelphia Eagles' head coach. I don't know why anyone doubted that he'd be able to adapt with the best quarterback and the best tight end in the NFL at his disposal.

By the way, it's not just the comment about the offense that should concern the rest of the AFC West. Mahomes also praised defensive lineman Chris Jones for his dominance during training camp.

One of the Chiefs' biggest issues last season was the lack of a consistent pass rush (especially in the playoffs against the Cincinnati Bengals). If they can improve in that area in 2022, then they'll repeat as AFC West division champions for the seventh straight season.

Picking against the Chiefs this season might be the trendy thing to do, but it's also the most foolish prediction folks could make.
