And lately, the Philadelphia Eagles (2-0) have done just that. But as the team prepares to take on the Washington Commanders on Sunday, there is a meeting of the old minds.
The quarterback for the Commanders is Carson Wentz, Philadelphia's old QB1. His departure from Philadelphia wasn't pretty, but it was needed. Now, facing his old team that upgraded at quarterback, it's time to dive into what to expect.
1.) Philadelphia will have to prove itself
At 1-1, Washington comes into Sunday's game playing competitive football. The offense has been productive under Wentz. He is leading the league with seven touchdown passes through two games, while also completing 65.5 percent of his passes for 650 yards. A mark that is good enough for second in the league.
Philadelphia's defense will have to stand the test of Wentz. It doesn't sound too intimidating, but when you see how well Wentz has played, this is the second real test the Eagles' defense has faced.
2.) Can Jalen Hurts keep being 'that' guy?
Jalen Hurts keeps getting better. That's not by accident. He's evidently put in the necessary work to improve his game as both a passer and runner.
Through two games, Hurts has completed 69.8 percent of his passes to go along with a touchdown. Where he's done most of his damage is on the ground. Hurts has rumbled to 147 yards on 28 carries, scoring three touchdowns and securing nine first downs with his legs.
According to PFF, Hurts ranks first among quarterbacks for rushing yards after contact. In Week 3, Philadelphia will need more of the same from him.
