The Denver Broncos have a dynamic running game, and I think everyone knows that now after last season. They have two running backs that are both starting worthy, and they use them both to the best of their abilities, equally.
Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams combined for nearly 2,000 rushing yards last season, with both having a little over 900 each.
For 16 games Gordon was the starter and did well in that role. But there was one week where Williams got the start, and there has been some conversation about the workload ever since.
Broncos' running backs have the situation figured out
Williams and Gordon are both very good, and no one is really sure yet who will be the starter this year, or who will get more snaps. According to Gordon, the situation has already been figured out.
"To be honest, I think they kind of have a plan on what they want," Gordon told reporters on Wednesday after being asked about the situation. "As far as the rotation goes, I really don't know. I think they want Javonte to probably be the guy. But we do rotate. He'll take the first series, and then the second series with the ones, I'll take. Sometimes we switch, but, I don't really know how they will do it."
"I got to go back and look at how they did things in Green Bay with the carries and things like that, but my mindset is to kind of go out here and just compete and go as hard as I can."
The Broncos will make sure whatever decision they make about the backfield, is the right decision. Whether it be Gordon or Williams, the running game will be elite. With either of them in the backfield, there won't be much of a problem getting down the field by way of the run game.
With both of them, Russell Wilson at quarterback, and the receiving weapons on the team, the play-action game will be deadly. The Broncos have one of the most balanced offenses in the league, and it will continue with Williams getting the majority of snaps, as we saw last season.
