2020 Tennessee Vols signee Reginald Perry has high hopes for UT's incoming freshman class.

Perry recently told VolQuest that he believes Tennessee's 2020 class will be viewed as the top class in the country, or at least a top five class.

"If not the best, top-five for sure when it’s all said and done. We are loaded with talent. I’ve enjoyed getting to know these guys and can’t wait to be teammates", said Perry.

Tennessee's 2020 recruiting class finished as the No. 10 class in the nation (247Sports composite), buoyed by highly touted players like five-star quarterback Harrison Bailey and four-star safety Keyshawn Lawrence (who just missed being rated as a five-star recruit).

If Perry is correct and the Vols' 2020 class ends up being one of the better signing classes in the nation, then it will be dependent on the performance of some of the "lower" rated players in the class.

Players like Perry.

Perry, 6-foot-6/301 lbs from Fairfield, AL, was rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 61 defensive tackle in the nation and the No. 725 overall recruit in the country.

He didn't have an offer sheet lined with scholarship offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida and Georgia. His only other SEC offers came from Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and South Carolina.

But despite the unimpressive rating from the recruiting services, and the lack of scholarship offers from key SEC rivals, UT head coach Jeremy Pruitt still heavily pursued the Alabama native and made Perry part of a top 10 class.

This goes back to Pruitt trusting his own evaluations of players over what other programs see and what the recruiting services say.

If Pruitt guessed right on Perry (and some others, like three-star offensive lineman James Robinson), then it's very possible that Tennessee's 2020 signing class ends up being viewed as a top five class.

And if that happens, then it means the Vols will be competing for SEC championships a whole lot sooner than we all thought.
