‘Ain’t no way in hell’ – Hall of Famer has seen enough of Joe Milton this preseason and made his stance on the former Vols QB clear
Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton is having a great preseason with the Dallas Cowboys.
Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Joe Milton put on a show on Saturday night in the Dallas Cowboys’ 34-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
Milton passed for 179 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for a touchdown.
The former Vol is battling veteran Sam Howell for the backup quarterback job in Dallas (Howell passed for 65 yards and an interception against Arizona).
Hall of Famer thinks Joe Milton deserves a chance to start in the NFL
Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe has been impressed enough by Milton that he believes the former Vol is going to find himself in a starting situation at some point in the not-too-distant future.
Sharpe suggested that Milton could be on the Malik Willis path (Willis received very few opportunities his first few years in the NFL before getting signed to be the Miami Dolphins’ starter this past offseason).
“I feel like Joe Milton is going to find himself in a situation like Malik Willis,” said Sharpe. “He could be a starter. There’s ain’t no way in hell you’re going to tell me there’s 32 quarterbacks better than this man.”
As for where Milton could land as a starter?
Sharpe says to keep an eye on Cleveland.
“Keep an eye on that Cleveland situation,” said Sharpe.
“He’s going to play himself into a starting job somewhere. I think people have seen enough. You look at the Browns’ situation, I don’t think they’re settled on their quarterback. Whoever wins the job, I don’t think they’re settled.”
Sharpe also pointed out the Pittsburgh Steelers as a team that could be in the market for a quarterback when Aaron Rodgers calls it a career (which is expected to happen at the end of the 2026 season).
The Cowboys could choose to sell high on Milton and trade him to a team that needs a quarterback, but I don’t know if any NFL teams would be willing to make that deal in late August. Dallas may need to wait until later this season when a team is in dire need of a quarterback.
But regardless of how it happens, it would certainly be nice to see Milton get a chance to start games in the NFL and prove whether he can be a longterm starting quarterback.
