Tennessee Vols forward Grant Williams has been named the AP SEC player of the year, according to ESPN.
Williams, who also earned unanimous All-SEC first team honors, is the first player to win back-to-back SEC player of the year honors since Arkansas' Corliss Williamson won the award in 1994 and 1995.
(Williams was the named the Coaches SEC player of the year in 2018.)
Jordan Bone and Admiral Schofield were named to the All-SEC second team.
It was quite a regular season for Williams. The Charlotte native led the SEC in scoring 19.3 points per game and was fifth in the conference with 7.7 rebounds per game.
The emergence of Williams, who was a three-star recruit out of high school, has helped Rick Barnes take Tennessee's basketball program to new heights. The Vols, who won a share of the regular season SEC title last season, finished second in 2019, despite having a better record this season.
Tennessee is currently ranked No. 8 in the nation, but if they win the SEC Tournament this weekend, or make a deep run, they still have an outside shot of securing a No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
