The San Francisco 49ers have now joined the Tennessee Titans in the rumor mill regarding a young star receiver. 49ers WR Deebo Samuel has reportedly requested a trade from the team amid contract extension negotiations. Titans WR A.J. Brown has been floated around in trade rumors for weeks now, but a trade request has not been made to anyone's knowledge.
If Samuel does get moved, how could it affect the Titans? Here are a couple of big reasons that a Deebo deal could change the outlook of the AFC as well as the Titans and A.J Brown.
The A.J. Brown Situation
Let's address the elephant in the room. Moving on from Samuel would give the Titans a blueprint to a potential return in an A.J. Brown trade. Again, it does not seem likely that Tennessee trades Brown, but this would at least give a glimpse into what other teams would probably pay. Brown and Samuel were both second-round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. They have both also outplayed their draft slot as well as their rookie salary by a large margin. They're easily the best pass-catching options on their team, and they're both possibly top ten receivers in the league right now. Keep in mind that Deebo and Brown both have the same agent, too.
AFC Contenders
Other contenders in the AFC are at the top of the potential list to make a deal for Deebo. The Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts, and Baltimore Ravens are all possible playoff teams that may have interest and the best shot to acquire the 49ers WR.
The Chiefs have the most draft capital of any of those teams. Replacing Tyreek Hill with Deebo Samuel would keep the targets for Patrick Mahomes as dangerous as ever. The Colts acquired Matt Ryan from the Falcons earlier this off-season and have a need at receiver. They also believe they have a good shot at winning the AFC South and vying for a Super Bowl spot in the AFC. They have plenty of cap space for the move and an extension, too. The Ravens would become even more frustrating to play against as an opposing defense with Samuel. Adding a dynamic weapon like him to an offense with Lamar Jackson at the helm is very exciting.
Right now, it seems more likely than not that the 49ers are forced to trade Samuel. The move would definitely affect the Titans in a couple of different ways. We'll see how it all unfolds.
