According to a report from former Tennessee Vols beat writer John Brice, wide receiver Jauan Jennings is expected to return to UT in 2019.

This is absolutely terrific news for Jeremy Pruitt and the Vols, despite the fact that Jennings hasn't had a great statistical career at Tennessee. His best season was in 2016 when he caught 40 passes for 580 yards.

But while Jennings hasn't lit up box scores, he brings an element to the Vols' offense that's nearly impossible to measure.

When there's a third and long play and Jennings catches the ball, you can almost be guaranteed that he's going to pick up the needed yards for a first down. Jennings plays with a lot of heart and toughness, which is essential to being a solid football player.

Vol fans should be excited to see Jennings in Jim Chaney's offense in 2019. One of Chaney's strong suits is finding a way to get the ball into the hands of playmakers. Jennings, despite his lack of speed, qualifies as a playmaker.

The Vols are returning nearly everyone on offense in 2019 (starting offensive tackle Drew Richmond and tight end Eli Wolf are currently listed in the transfer portal), which means we should see significant improvement from Tennessee on the offensive side of the ball.

Update:

Jennings confirmed his return to UT on Monday.
