Pro Football Network thinks there's a trade the Denver Broncos need to make before the start of the regular season.
Mike Kaye, a reporter/NFL writer for Pro Football Network, thinks the Broncos should trade offensive tackle Cameron Fleming to the Indianapolis Colts for a fifth-round draft pick.
The Indianapolis Colts are a mess at the left tackle position. While Cameron Fleming isn’t a world-beater at the position, he’s a cost-effective upgrade — via trade and salary.
With Matt Pryor struggling to hold down the blindside for Matt Ryan, Fleming could provide much-needed competition and insurance. Pryor is better off being the primary backup for four of the five offensive line spots anyway.
The Denver Broncos are overloaded with offensive linemen, and they could afford to deal Fleming for future draft considerations, especially after trading a plethora of picks to the Seattle Seahawks for Russell Wilson this offseason.
I'm usually not a fan of trading offensive line depth — you can never have enough offensive linemen — but the Broncos are fortunate to have enough depth that they can afford to make this deal.
However, I don't think Denver should be in a rush to deal Fleming. They should wait until a team gets desperate enough to offer a third-round or fourth-round pick. The Broncos have the leverage here — they don't have to trade Fleming for a poor return.
There are plenty of teams that could use an offensive lineman right now. And that need will only grow as preseason practices continue to take their toll on NFL teams. Denver should stay patient and wait for the right opportunity.
