The Broncos are reportedly expected to bring a controversial coach back to Denver in 2026
The Denver Broncos are reportedly expected to bring a familiar face back to the franchise in 2026.
According to a report from CBS Sports insider Matt Zenitz, the Denver Broncos are “likely” bringing outside linebackers coach Michael Wilhoite back to the franchise in 2026.
Wilhoite served as the Broncos’ linebackers coach from 2023 to 2024.
He was fired in 2025 after getting arrested for second-degree assault of a police officer in the departure area of Denver International Airport.
Earlier this summer, 9NEWS reported that all charges against Wilhoite have been dismissed.
A civil suit, however, has been filed by the officer against Wilhoite.
From 9News: Wilhoite allegedly punched a Denver policeman in the face at a drop-off traffic zone at Denver International Airport on Feb. 23, 2025. Wilhoite was originally charged with second-degree felony assault of a police officer, misdemeanor obstruction of a police office and misdemeanor criminal mischief. Wilhoite was arrested and jailed, and a few days later was fired from his position of outside linebackers coach by the Broncos. The felony charge was dismissed seven months later, in September 2025, according to court documents. And now, according to Steinberg, the other two misdemeanor charges have also been dismissed. However, according to civil documents filed back in February in Denver District Court and obtained by 9NEWS Investigates, the police officer involved, Jesus Galvan Chavez, has filed a civil complaint against Wilhoite.
It’s unclear what role Wilhoite will fill if he officially returns to Denver. Isaac Shewmaker is currently listed as the Broncos’ outside linebackers coach.
