The Philadelphia Eagles just traded for a safety in Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. He joins cornerbacks Darius Slay and Jame Bradberry in their secondary. A forgotten name on that unit for the Eagles is fellow safety Marcus Epps. Epps and Gardner-Johnson is a very solid duo at safety. They both fill different roles for the Eagles, too.

The Eagles' safety is included on the list of potential "Breakout Players" for this season via NFL Network analyst Peter Schrager.

Epps has played well over the last two seasons for the Eagles, earning a 72.8 grade from Pro Football Focus. In 2020, he had a 75.1 player grade from PFF.

Those grades don't always tell the entire story, but they are correct to give respect to Epps. Now, with a better second safety on the team, he may be even better. That's what Peter Schrager of NFL Network believes will happen.

Taking his game to the next level would make a big difference for the Eagles' defense as well. They have added talent at every level. Epps' continued development is something to keep an eye on this season for the Eagles.
