News broke on Tuesday morning that Aaron Rodgers is sticking around with the Green Bay Packers in 2022.
Pat McAfee, who has Rodgers on his YouTube show weekly, tweeted the news on Tuesday.
This news wasn't a major surprise. It was always a stretch to believe that Rodgers would actually leave Green Bay (though the Denver Broncos were apparently a real consideration).
Now that the Packers know Rodgers' plans, they can start planning the rest of their offseason — it's a good thing Rodgers made his intentions known before the 4:00 PM ET franchise tag deadline on Tuesday.
Speaking of the franchise tag deadline, that's the first domino that's expected to fall for the Packers now that Rodgers has decided to return.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday, shortly after the news of Rodgers' decision broke, that Green Bay is expected to use the franchise tag on wide receiver Davante Adams
This makes the most sense for the Packers. Green Bay was never going to be able to work out a long-term deal with Adams without knowing Rodgers' plans. Placing the tag on Adams will allow the Packers to work on an extension for the next four months.
If they can't get a deal done, Adams would earn $18.4 million (fully guaranteed) in 2022.
