On Wednesday, a hilarious rumor about Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes swept the internet.
But it appears it might not be accurate.
It all started when ESPN's Josh Keim reported that the Washington Commanders started the offseason with a list of 42 quarterbacks and they contacted EVERY team in the NFL about a potential trade.
Some folks took that to mean that Washington had called Kansas City about Mahomes, which inspired some great reactions.

It sounds like Keim got his wording wrong.
According to Commanders general manager Martin Mayhew, Washington called every team that had a quarterback who might be available.
"We feel we have canvassed the league effectively," said Mayhew on Wednesday at the NFL scouting combine. "We've spoken to every club that has a quarterback who might be available."
There's a big difference between "every team" and "every that that might want to trade their quarterback".
Also, the Commanders' list of 42 quarterbacks reportedly included quarterbacks who will be available in the 2022 NFL Draft as well. So it's not like they just made a list of all the current starting quarterbacks in the NFL.
Washington is casting a wide net when it comes to identifying their next quarterback, but they aren't wasting their time with phone calls to the Chiefs. It's a fun story. It just doesn't appear to be true.
