The NFL draft is two months away, and for the Dallas Cowboys, that'll likely be where the team gets most of its new impact players for the 2022 season due to the cautious free-agent spending habits they have displayed over the last several years.

That also means that mock draft season is here. And with a high-profile team like the Cowboys, there's always speculation about which players from the college ranks will end up in Dallas.

Last week, ESPN's Todd McShay had the Cowboys taking Michigan edge rusher David Ojabo in the first round in his latest mock draft. This time, Austin Gayle of Pro Football Focus put together a two-round piece, and he has the Cowboys taking left guard Kenyon Green out of Texas A&M in Round 1 and edge rusher Cameron Thomas out of San Diego State in Round 2.

This is what Gayle had to say about Kenyon Green and his versatility and starting potential:

"Green played 80-plus offensive snaps at left tackle, left guard, right guard and right tackle in 2021, and he still earned a career-high 79.8 PFF grade despite the constant positioning shifts. Teams will appreciate his versatility at the next level, but he’ll come off the board inside the first 50 picks of April’s draft more so because of what he can develop into at either guard position in the NFL. The 6-foot-4, 325-pounder projects as a Day 1 starter on the interior with a legit chance of developing into one of the league’s marquee guards."

Connor Williams was the starting left guard for the Cowboys in 2021. While he showed flashes here and there, Williams didn't show the consistency to be a trusted member of the Cowboys offensive line going forward. He's headed for free agency in March, so, the Cowboys scooping up Green in the first round of the draft would address a major need and give them a Day 1 starter at left guard.

Round 2, 56th overall: Cameron Thomas, Edge, San Diego State

A scouting report on Cameron Thomas via Oliver Hodgkinson of Pro Football Network:

"When you combine his hand technique with his impressive athleticism, Thomas is a difficult man to stop. He wins with unerring ease, whether attacking outside or on the interior. He can go through, around, and even in between blockers. For a big man, Thomas makes himself skinny to knife through gaps with apparent ease. He regularly attracts double-team blocks, and they regularly fail.

Thomas has an impressive array of pass-rush tools. He showcases a potent bull rush, a swim move that could carry him across an ocean in a hurry, and he has double swipe and rip moves at his disposal. However, more impressive than simply possessing these moves is that he is extremely efficient at combining moves to beat his man.

I feel comfortable in saying that Thomas is one of the most exciting defensive end prospects that I’ve studied in the 2022 NFL Draft class. In a deep class, that isn’t an easy accomplishment. Yet, the San Diego State DE makes everything look easy. He’s explosive, athletic, powerful, big, long, and technically savvy. He’s the real deal, and there’s no reason why he can’t penetrate the first round come April."

The Cowboys will certainly look to bring back defensive end Randy Gregory in free agency, but when adding in the uncertainty with the future of DeMarcus Lawrence and his $27 million cap hit, edge rusher has become a significant need in the draft. Thomas logged 71 tackles (20.5 tackles for loss) and 10.5 sacks for the Aztecs in 2021. If the Cowboys take the smart route and free up $12 million by restructuring Lawrence's deal -which will aid in keeping Gregory in-house- snagging Thomas on Day 2 of the NFL Draft would add some much-needed depth at edge rusher.
