Wednesday was a quiet day in the NFL world until late in the evening when Bruce Arians surprised everyone by announcing his retirement from his role as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' head coach.

Defensive coordinator Todd Bowles will take over as the Bucs' head coach while Arians will transition to a role in Tampa Bay's front office.

Arians said on Wednesday, via NBC Sports, that he's choosing to retire now because the franchise is in a good place. And he doesn't want Bowles to take over a bad situation.

Before the news broke, Arians sent a message to his players to let them know of his plan.

Here's that message, via NFL Network's Mike Garafolo:

This is vintage Arians — everything he does is done with class. He's always thinking of others and how his actions will impact others. So it's no surprise that he's retiring so another coach will be in a better situation.

Bucs quarterback Tom Brady sent a public message to Arians as well, via an Instagram post.

Arians retiring is obviously major news for the Bucs, but thanks to the presence of Brady, the Buccaneers are still one of the teams to beat in the NFL in 2022.
