The Buffalo Bills announced they would play their starters in their second preseason game earlier in the week. On game day, we were bound to see a surprise.
And so it happened along the offensive line from the moment the team took the field for warmups. David Quessenberry was in with the first team instead of Spencer Brown.
The decision to start Quessenberry was a surprise even though he was listed as the first-team right tackle in the Bills' unofficial depth chart.
At the time, many assumed the decision to list Brown as a backup was nothing but a motivation tactic for the lineman who missed months due to injury.
It took one offensive drive to shoot down such a storyline, at least temporarily. Quessenberry was out with the ones. This essentially confirms the Bills are aiming to have their free agency addition start.
This makes Spencer Brown the automatic for the swing tackle job going into the season, but he'll likely be providing competition in practice every single week.
