San Francisco 49ers safety Jimmie Ward made some comments this week about Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce that he could end up regretting.
Ward was holding court on Instagram Live with his followers when he said "I'm looking forward to that matchup with Kelce. Please someone go and tell him I said it…I can't wait until that matchup".
The Chiefs and the 49ers play next season in San Francisco.
It seemed like Ward was hinting that Kelce wouldn't have more than 50 receiving yards against him next season.
That's an awfully bold prediction coming from Ward, who has never reached a Pro-Bowl.
Kelce is one of the most dominant players in the NFL. He's gone to seven straight Pro-Bowls and he holds the record for most receiving yards ever by a tight end in a season (1,416 yards) and the most seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards by a tight end (6).
The last thing Kelce needs is more motivation. But that's exactly what Ward gave him this week.
I bet these comments show up in the Chiefs' locker room next season before Kansas City takes on the 49ers.
And that could lead to a very long day for Jimmie Ward.
