The Dallas Cowboys stunned a lot of folks when they traded star wide receiver Amari Cooper. They felt it was dynamically necessary. That created another necessity, a new, cheaper addition at WR that can make an impact right away. Michael Gallup most likely will not start the season available for the Cowboys. CeeDee Lamb will have plenty of attention on him from opposing defenses. Enter rookie WR Jalen Tolbert.

Tolbert is a physical specimen at his position and put up very impressive collegiate numbers. The best part of his game may be his attitude, though. He comes off as a confident, consistent hard worker. You can tell from his work ethic and comments that he is determined to make a difference for the Cowboys this season and beyond.

His final two seasons at South Alabama were absolute marvels. Of course, the level of competition will be a steep climb as he enters the NFL, but it sounds like he is cut out for it mentally and physically. In 2020, Tolbert caught 64 balls for 1085 yards and 8 touchdowns. In 2021, he caught 82 passes for 1474 yards and 8 touchdowns. He averaged 17.6 yards per catch during his entire career at South Alabama.

He is a deep threat – to say the least. Accordingly, filling in for Gallup while he is injured could pay dividends for the connection between Tolbert and QB Dak Prescott. Prescott likes throwing the 50-50 balls down the sideline when he has a trusted receiver on the other end of them. Tolbert can be that even when Gallup returns.

Overall, the Cowboys and their fans should be really excited for their new WR3 in an offensive that looks to be very explosive once again this season.
