Eagles, Gannon

We said this before the season started, that the Philadelphia Eagles could be the best team in the league at some point this year. As of right now, they are looking like that. After Thursday Night Football, they are the only undefeated team left.

We said this offense could be one of the best, as they have a unique game on the ground, and through the air. And, Jalen Hurts is playing like an MVP.

We said the defense would be the only downfall after Week 1 if they didn't get things fixed. But guess what. They got things fixed.

Since allowing 35 points to the Detroit Lions in Week 1, the Eagles have not allowed more than eight points in a game and just 15 total points, overall. They held the Minnesota Vikings to seven points in Week 2, and the Washington Commanders to eight in Week 3. Those are two teams with above-average offenses and the Eagles shut them down.

So, why are there still questions about defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon?

National media has Eagles' DC as the big question

According to Kevin Patra of NFL.com, the Eagles' biggest question is if Gannon will keep evolving the defense. In other words, will it regress? Here is what Patra had to say about the Eagles' defensive coordinator.

"Even excited Eagles fans can admit they aren't quite sure whether to believe Gannon's defense is as hot as the start would seem to indicate. With a menacing front, improved linebacker play and a secondary that flies to the ball, Philly's defense has the potential to be a punishing unit. But which version is the true Eagle D?

"The one that got run over in Detroit, giving up 35 points to the spry Lions? Or the group that suffocated Minnesota and Washington? The run defense is the biggest question at this stage. If Philly continues to stonewall opponents, and Jalen Hurts and the offense continue to soar, the Eagles will be the most well-rounded team in the NFL."

I'm not sure I agree with the first sentence so much. I think most Eagles fans are sold that this defense is legit. Week 2 showed that they could lock down the opposing team's best player Justin Jefferson.

Week 3 showed that they could get to the quarterback really whenever they wanted with nine sacks, and they could lock down the run game.

I think the defense has proved enough for people to know that it is a good defense, but I do think there is more that they can do to prove they are an elite defense. But to question Gannon is crazy, considering the masterpiece he has put together so far.

The Eagles will just have to continue to prove everyone wrong, just like usual.
