It appears the Miami Dolphins organization has been doing right by its players, and in a very strong way.
The NFLPA released its survey conducted by 1706 players regarding a wide variety of topics relating to the organization they play for, and the Miami Dolphins ranked number one in the NFL on average score, receiving near perfect marks.
The categories include treatment of families, food/cafeteria, nutritionist/dietician, locker room, training room, training staff, weight room, strength coaches, team travel, head coach, and ownership.
The Dolphins ranked no worse than 3rd out of 32 teams in all categories except one, which was head coach. Still, Mike McDaniel came in at 8th out of 32. Not too shabby. The Dolphins finished tops in ownership, weight room, training room, training staff, food/cafeteria, and team travel.
The team's third overall ranking in treatment of families comes from having a family room inside the stadium, daycare available on game days, and the players indicating the treatment of families has improved since the previous year.
As far as team travel, the Dolphins note they have enough space to be comfortable when they travel. Most notably, the Dolphins do not require players to have roommates or to pay to have their own room, which is something that some other teams require.
Stephen Ross also scored a 9.9 out of 10 from the players regarding his willingness to invest in the team facilities, which scored largely off the charts among players. The weight room and training room were lauded by the players. McDaniel also scored 2nd out of all coaches in the subcategory of willingness to listen to the locker room.
As such, it's pretty clear the Dolphins have gone the extra mile to make sure the players and their families are provided with a professional and comfortable atmosphere when they come to work every day. That's certainly not a bad thing to sell when free agency negotiations begin on March 11.
