Baltimore Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen is set to hit free agency for the first time in his career next month.
Since Queen was selected in the opening round of the 2020 NFL Draft, his rookie contract included a fifth-year option. The Ravens ultimately decided to decline this option last May.
Queen would be a dream signing for a multitude of teams across the NFL, but ESPN analyst Field Yates sees that the Seattle Seahawks would be an ideal landing spot for the all-around linebacker in free agency.
"The Seahawks sign LB Patrick Queen," Yates wrote on ESPN.com. "I suspect you'll hear buzz of this nature involving any Ravens defensive free agent, as new Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald architected a brilliant defense in Baltimore. But the Queen match is particularly pertinent as Macdonald was Queen's position coach in Baltimore early in his career."
Yates added that with linebackers Bobby Wagner and Jordyn Brooks set to be out of a contract in March, it would make all the sense in the world for the Seahawks to push to bring in Queen.
Patrick Queen's emergence
As Yates also touched on, Queen starred under now-former Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald over the past two seasons. Macdonald provided Queen with multiple tasks on the field, and the former LSU standout sure passed each one with flying colors. From dropping back in coverage to helping to stop the run, Queen shined under the newly hired Seahawks head coach.
It will be noteworthy to see whether Seahawks general manager John Schneider will go all out to sign Queen when this year’s free agency period kicks off.
