The Baltimore Ravens may end up seeing quite a bit of turnaround at the running back position in the coming month.
A total of seven running backs featured in at least one offensive snap for Baltimore this past season, and a mere two such players are under contract with the team for the 2024 campaign. Justice Hill is set to play next season on the final year of his contract with the Ravens, while Keaton Mitchell is under team control for three more years.
The Ravens could end up turning to this year’s free agency period to bolster their depth at running back.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler noted in a recent column on ESPN.com that "some personnel people inside the league believe" that Baltimore will look to "target a running back with pedigree" in free agency.
Who could the Ravens target in free agency?
There will not be a shortage of such running backs in free agency this year. For one, Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry will be out of a contract in March. The Ravens were linked with Henry ahead of this past season’s NFL trade deadline, but Tennessee ultimately decided not to ship off the four-time Pro Bowler.
The likes of New York Giants' Saquon Barkley and Dallas Cowboys' Tony Pollard are also set to hit free agency next month.
It will be noteworthy to see whether Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta will go all out to soon bring in a standout running back.
