The Kansas City Chiefs have made another activation to the 53-man roster from injured reserve ahead of Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers.

Earlier in the week, the team activated WR Skyy Moore, who had been dealing with a knee injury. Now, they're adding a key offensive piece back into the fold ahead of the big game.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs are activating RB Jerick McKinnon to the 53-man roster. It's not a 100% guarantee that McKinnon will play in Super Bowl LVIII, but it gives Andy Reid the option of making him activate on game day. Rapoport says that he's still listed as questionable for the game with his groin injury and will be considered a game-time decision.

McKinnon was designated to return from injured reserve earlier this week. He has been a major part of the Chiefs' offense for the past several seasons. He notably made a great decision in Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles to slide down instead of scoring, helping the team put the game on ice.

His production hasn't been particularly great this season, with just 20 attempts for 60 rushing yards and a rushing score. He has great value in the passing game as a blocker and a receiver with 25 receptions for 192 receiving yards and four touchdowns on the year.

During his tenure in Kansas City, McKinnon has 53 carries for 210 yards in the playoffs. As a receiver, he's caught 19 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown. He's been a big postseason weapon when it comes to picking up first downs, with 21 since the 2021 NFL postseason.

McKinnon, of course, spent several years in San Francisco, but he didn't play much due to multiple knee injuries. He'll be playing against his former team should he be active for Sunday's game.

The team placed LG Joe Thuney on injured reserve as a corresponding move. Thuney was already ruled out of the game with a pectoral injury.
