Tyrion Davis-Price's time with the San Francisco 49ers is officially over.
The running back, who was on the Niners' practice squad, was not signed to a reserve/futures contract by San Francisco following Super Bowl 58.
And he will now continue his career with one of the 49ers' main NFC rivals after he signed a reserve/futures deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, per his agency Elite Loyalty Sports.
Davis-Price was a third-round pick of the 49ers in 2022.
It appeared a bemusing selection at the time and Davis-Price never managed to prove otherwise, with his opportunities as a rookie limited by injury and the 49ers' blockbuster midseason trade for Christian McCaffrey.
Davis-Price, who was outperformed by undrafted free agent Jordan Mason, appeared in six games in 2022. He rushed for just 99 yards on 34 carries.
The former LSU back's only appearance in 2023 was in the Week 5 win over the Dallas Cowboys. He had 21 yards on six carries.
He was waived by the 49ers in December before being re-signed to the practice squad.
Davis-Price follows in the footsteps of Trey Sermon, a third-round pick of the 49ers in 2021, in joining the Eagles after failing to make an impression with San Francisco. Sermon signed with Philadelphia in 2022 after being waived by the 49ers that August. He spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts.
With McCaffrey having just won Offensive Player of the Year as the clear focal point of the 49er offense, and Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason entrenched as the backups, there is little need for San Francisco to carry a fourth running back on the 2024 roster.
Yet, given the inherent physical nature of the position and head coach Kyle Shanahan's fondness for it, is likely they will add another to the mix at some point either by drafting a rookie or signing one as a UDFA.

They know each other very well.
