When the Carolina Panthers hired Dan Morgan and Dave Canales, the hope was it would be a massive change in direction.

At least one former Panthers player thinks it was the perfect decision for the future of the franchise.

Former running back Jonathan Steward recently joined the Bleav in Carolina podcast, claiming that the Panthers are like the San Francisco 49ers when they hired Kyle Shanahan and Jon Lynch.

"I think they're building the right staff front office," Stewart said. "It's going to take time to get the right players. You look at the 49ers in 2017, right? You look at how Shanahan and John Lynch came together and it took them six years to reach this point… This organization is in good hands."

Stewart played for the Panthers for 10 years. He owns the franchise record for rushing attempts in his career, rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and 100-plus yard games.

He was a member of the 2015 Super Bowl-appearing Panthers team, so he knows what it takes to win at a high level in the NFL.

Though he isn't in the front office, Stewart may be on to something. Canales was hired to get the most out of Bryce Young. His work with other quarterbacks. Specifically, Baker Mayfield and Geno Smith prove he knows how to rebuild a quarterback's career.

Morgan, in his introductory press conference, said that he wants the Panthers logo to be feared. It hasn't in some time. To do so, the Panthers need to overhaul the roster from the top down.

That is exactly what he appears willing to do. The Panthers may not be close to the 49ers on talent. But because of the franchise's front office hires, it is moving in the right direction.
