The Miami Dolphins have a lot of work to do if they plan to get under the salary cap. A part of this process points to player releases and contract extensions. So, it has begun with the release of edge defender/linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah.

Ogbah has spent four seasons in South Beach, two of which, he finished with nine sacks in back-to-back seasons. Only two years into the contract extension and the Dolphins' front office views him as a necessary loss to their roster.

Since signing his extension in 2021, Ogbah has not played a full slate of games. Missing 10 games over the last two seasons is not how you prove you are worth the contract. As a result, Ogbah's production has gone down, after tallying 18 in two seasons, he has six since 2022.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Dolphins are expected to release Ogbah.

Releasing Emmanuel Ogbah helps Dolphins cap space goal

The release of Ogabh will free close to 14 million in cap space, per ESPN's Field Yates. Before the news, the Dolphins were around 46 million over the cap, this move will drop them to around 32 million. Frankly, they have a lot of heavy lifting to do to make any moves in free agency, keep Christian Wilkins, and sign their 2024 NFL Draft class. This is a step in the right direction but man, there is a lot left to accomplish for the Dolphins before the new league year begins in a few weeks.
