Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson believes he still has a lot left in the tank.

It's safe to say that not many are in agreeance with him on that, including his head coach Sean Payton, who benched Wilson for the final two games of the 2023 season. Wilson's statistics have been middling, and he has won just 11 of 30 games as their starter since joining the Broncos in 2022.

His future in Denver is uncertain, and at 35 years old his options are dwindling. However, Wilson is not discouraged by any of those factors. He sat down with former NFL receiver Brandon Marshall on the I Am Athlete podcast and shared some lofty goals of his for his future.

"I've got more fire than ever, honestly." Wilson said, "Especially over the past two years with what I've gone through. Whether if it's in Denver or somewhere else…I hope it's in Denver…I hope I get to finish there. I committed there. I wanted to be there. I want to be there. For me it's about winning. Over the next five years I want to win two (Super Bowls). I want to feel the chill of that trophy again. I love the city and everything else, but you also want to be in a place that wants you too. The thing that I want to do is win. That's all I care about."

Wilson made it clear that he would like to honor his contract with the Broncos and remain their starter, but the ball is in their court as to whether or not they want him there. Wilson should have options with some quarterback-needy teams, but he's unlikely to get a long-term deal.

If he can deliver on his goals that he revealed to Marshall, though, perhaps he can earn one last big contract. Wilson saying he wants to win two more Super Bowls over the next five years is commendable, but probably not realistic given his age and declining play.

It's not completely out of the realm of possibility that he can win a championship if he joins a team with a stacked roster, but the odds are still stacked pretty highly against him. A more likely end to Wilson's career is as a stop-gap quarterback while his new team grooms their QB of the future.
